For my family, having 24/7 internet connections while we travel is a necessity. But international roaming charges – even for a quick check of e-mail, can be outrageously expensive. You can buy SIM cards at your destination, but we’ve found renting before you head overseas is much simpler. At www.xcomglobal.com, you can even rent a MiFi Mobile Hotspot – allowing five devices to connect at once. That means we can all check e-mail, tweet, Facebook, and look up directions at the same time! Plus, we use Skype to place calls. This is how we stay connected and save a ton of money.

Get your foreign currency before you go. Getting your foreign currency is no longer a walk in the park. Even charging your purchases abroad will cost you. Check out the article from The Wall Street Journal, and see what I mean. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124209087226709139.html Your readers and customers should know that better rates of exchange are available here in the US.

If your looking for an adventure and want to see animals and birds that you never knew existed I highly recommend visiting Madidi National Park found in Bolivia! I booked a tour while in the cutest town ever called Rurrenabaque to the Park and had the time of my life traipsing around in the jungles of this gorgeous country. I went with a tour agency called Mashaquipe and they were GREAT!!!!!! Mashaquipe is composed of the indigenous tribe, Tacana, found in the jungles of Madidi National Park. They were incredibly knowledge of the flora and fauna found in jungle and even taught us how to make fire from sticks and leaves as well as jewelry from seeds that we found along our hikes. Our accommodations were rustic yet comfortable-the cabaña we stayed in was made out of authentic Tacana material, it was super cool!!! Check um out, I promise you, it´s an experience you won´t forget!!

1.Use sturdy large ziplock plastic bags: put all underwear in one; shirts folded neatly in another; sweaters in another and so on. When you underpack at a hotel just lift out the bags and place them in the drawers. 2.Instead of bringing home accumlated laundry, ship it home..ups grownd is cheaper than paying for an additional bag at the airport. Take along some packing tape and get a box at the shipping store 3. If you like a drink before dinner bring along numerous sample size bottles of booze which you will put in your checked bag. Throw out the empties. Never cart a large bottle of anything.

I've seen an idea somewhat like this on your site, but this goes a bit further. For years, my husband and I have kept a "trip list" in our word processing program. It's really two lists, one for things we need to do before we leave (tell the neighbors, fill the tank of our car), and the other is a list of what we need to take. We check off each item as it's completed or packed. We also take the list with us so we can note anything we should have brought, but didn't. When we get home, we revise the list accordingly.

Cape Cod is a beautiful place to visit. But beware of Chatham and its "Free Parking." I parked but a few inches over a white line and was quickly fined. The violation is $50.00. All 15 parking violations in Chatham are $50.00.

If someone wants to buy you a drink, walk with them to the bar and keep your eyes on that drink until you've emptied it. If your eyes go off the drink, leave it alone. Many people, singles and couples, have been drugged from drinks tainted with ruffies.

Last year over 42 million bags did not arrive with their owners. Luggage tags and destination tags can and do come off your bags during their journey. Also, all of the routing information is printed on those small stickers the airline wraps around your handle at check in. Often that information gets misread or not read at all during the baggage handling process. Increase your chances of landing with your luggage by using these fluorescent yellow stickers with all your flight information and contact information on them. Check out www.landwithmyluggage.com

Bags within bags. Pack empty duffel bags or soft backpacks (ones that are easy to roll up) into your suitcase. They make great beach bags or excursion bags. Then if you buy more than fits in your suitcase you can always use them as extra luggage on your return flight.

Make friends with the regular bus drivers around your hotel. They're better equipped to make suggestions than most concierges, and are very familiar with local customs/secrets. A good public bus driver can make an entire vacation!

Only drink bottled water in foreign countries. All water contains different sets of microbes and mineral deposits, even in the US. If you aren't used to a country's drinking water, then you may get sick just because it is different. Be safe, buy bottled water cheap at the supermarket.

Beware of cheap cruise excursions provided by local sources compared to those offered by the cruise lines excursions desks. You may end up stranded - or at the least taken advantage of. The cruise lines vouch for the companies they contract with, and you are much safer using one recommended by the cruise line or a company your travel agent recommends.

When traveling by air, avoid taking a nap during the descent and landing. This will help with the pressure change and avoid temporary plugged ears. Stay awake and yawn or chew gum.
