If traveling to a humid climate put a dryer sheet in your suitcase to keep you clothes smelling fresh.

When traveling by air, avoid taking a nap during the descent and landing. This will help with the pressure change and avoid temporary plugged ears. Stay awake and yawn or chew gum.

Beware of cheap cruise excursions provided by local sources compared to those offered by the cruise lines excursions desks. You may end up stranded - or at the least taken advantage of. The cruise lines vouch for the companies they contract with, and you are much safer using one recommended by the cruise line or a company your travel agent recommends.

Only drink bottled water in foreign countries. All water contains different sets of microbes and mineral deposits, even in the US. If you aren't used to a country's drinking water, then you may get sick just because it is different. Be safe, buy bottled water cheap at the supermarket.

Eliminate having to pack shaving cream by using a shaving brush, and work a lather from the hand soap. It works like a charm.

Attention women! Instead of packing tubes, jars, or plastic bottles of creams try a contact lens case. You can use both sides, one for eye cream, the other for concealers or products that require dabs for application.

If suffering from a headache during traveling, try massaging lavender aromotherepy oil where the pain is - it works wonders! Aveda makes a great travel size called "Blue Oil Balancing Concentrate".

Make friends with the regular bus drivers around your hotel. They're better equipped to make suggestions than most concierges, and are very familiar with local customs/secrets. A good public bus driver can make an entire vacation!

The secret for visiting huge attractions like Disney World….after passing the entrance gate, instead of walking to the RIGHT with the rest of the crowds, turn and walk to the LEFT and circle the park's attractions backwards! You'll beat the masses to all the rides! You'll be happy you did!

Bags within bags. Pack empty duffel bags or soft backpacks (ones that are easy to roll up) into your suitcase. They make great beach bags or excursion bags. Then if you buy more than fits in your suitcase you can always use them as extra luggage on your return flight.

If you like to shop when you travel (don't we all!) take a look at the website "www.notofakes.com" before you go. It is an excellent free information site about fake goods which you may be at risk of buying without knowing it and it also contains a travel advisory about what fakes to watch out for when you travel to different countries and who to contact. The web site is quite new so the list of countries that have information is small but growing fast.
Thanks!

Hi,
I spent five horrible days at Mirasol Hotel, Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro.
A bar almost in front played everynight loud recorded music till 4 AM.
According to some local friends, it has happened for two years.
Last wednesday, some 100 supporters of a soccer team screamed while watching a game on a big screen placed by the bar´s owners till 1 AM.
The police was called. Nothing was done.

Take an empty plastic bottle thru security and fill it up after you get through. Saves you buying one.

If traveling by train in Europe - pack light. You will have to catch you bags on and off the train yourself. And you will be sorry if it is too heavy.

Pay for goods and services received? No problem. Pay for goods and services not received? No way. A caution to travellers to Japan. Be very wary about furnishing your credit card details when all you want is information about availability of accommodation. You may find you have authorised a payment for accommodation that you don’t want. I recently went to the JapanHotel.Net (bookings@japanhotel.net) site in my search for a hotel in Kyoto. I wanted to check availability in Kyoto Ryokan Kinoe, but found there was no way to do so on this site. When you click on the ‘ask a question’ button, you read: ‘Please do not request availability information. We cannot give this information as it becomes outdated very quickly and the situation is often different when the guest tries to make a reservation.’ So my only option if I wanted to find out about availability of rooms in Kinoe was to supply my credit card details and click on the ‘reserve’ button. Since I was shopping around at the time, I found and booked with another hotel that was cheaper and more convenient, not realising that my enquiry with JapanHotel.Net had resulted in a confirmed booking. I returned home from my trip to Japan to discover that the hotel was classing me as a ‘no-show’ and applying the full penalty – 100% of the accommodation charge for two nights, a whopping £350 of pure profit, in return for no services whatsoever. I learned the hard way not to give out credit card details in advance of finding the right information. So, if you’re looking for accommodation in Japan, be very careful not to let this happen to you.

Buy a book from your favorite author, something you ready want to read. Buy it a couple weeks in advance, but don't read it. Let the anticipation build up. Don't read it until you are you are at the airport. Then the wait at the airport is something to look forward to.

Last year over 42 million bags did not arrive with their owners. Luggage tags and destination tags can and do come off your bags during their journey. Also, all of the routing information is printed on those small stickers the airline wraps around your handle at check in. Often that information gets misread or not read at all during the baggage handling process. Increase your chances of landing with your luggage by using these fluorescent yellow stickers with all your flight information and contact information on them. Check out www.landwithmyluggage.com

If someone wants to buy you a drink, walk with them to the bar and keep your eyes on that drink until you've emptied it. If your eyes go off the drink, leave it alone. Many people, singles and couples, have been drugged from drinks tainted with ruffies.
